St. Johns County Emergency Operations Center Press Conference – September 3
St. Johns County is holding a press conference at 4 p.m. today in the Emergency Operations Center, 100 EOC Drive, St. Augustine, to discuss Hurricane Dorian’s potential impacts to St. Johns County. The conference will include a question-and-answer session with representatives from St. Johns County, St. Johns County Fire Rescue, the School District, the City of St. Augustine Administration, Police Department, and Fire Department, and the City of St. Augustine Beach Police Department.
Republic Services will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday, September 4). There hasn’t been a decision made yet about Thursday.

Hurricane Dorian is moving toward the west near 8 mph and a slower westward motion should continue into early next week. On this track, the core of Dorian should move over the Atlantic well north of the southeastern and central Bahamas today, be near or over the northwestern Bahamas on Sunday, and move near the Florida east coast late Monday through Tuesday.

St. Johns County Hurricane Dorian Water Services Update
St. John County, Fl – St. Johns County Utility currently does not anticipate a need to disconnect water supply to the barrier islands. However, should weather conditions deteriorate to a point that the public water system is at risk, a disruption in water supply services may be necessary to protect the integrity of the system. Should a disruption of service be necessary, St. Johns County will provide notification to affected property owners as early as possible. St. Johns County Providing Free Sandbags to Residents in Preparation for Hurricane Dorian
St. Johns County, Fl – St. Johns County is providing free sandbags at six locations throughout the County in preparation for Hurricane Dorian. The sand and the bags will be provided free of charge to residents. Residents must provide their own transportation and shovels, and will be responsible for filling their own bags. There is a maximum allocation of 20 bags per person.

Current Situation:
Hurricane Dorian is moving northwest at 13 mph with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph with higher gusts. A west-northwestward motion is forecast to begin Friday night and continue into the weekend. On this track, Dorian should move over the Atlantic well east of the southeastern and central Bahamas today and on Friday, and approach the northwestern Bahamas on Saturday.
Dorian is expected to continue strengthening during the next few days and is now forecast to become a Major Category 3 Hurricane as it approaches the Florida coastline.

Current Situation:
Tropical Storm Dorian is taking a more northerly track through the Caribbean. Dorian is moving northwest at 13 mph with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph with higher gusts. Dorian is currently moving near the US Virgin Island and is expected to continue this motion into the open Atlantic well east of the southeastern Bahamas.
Dorian is expected to become a hurricane later today and continue strengthening during the next few days. Dorian is now forecast to become a Major Category 3 Hurricane as it approaches the Florida coastline.
